It seems like a very worthy and well thought out addition to an already top notch speaker. It's crazy!!!! Only if you are going for that last 5%, a great sub will get you 4% of the last 5%.Hi Jock,Ĭongrats on your Magico Q-Sub 15 purchase! I'll be interested to read if the Q-Subs give your D-5's the same improvement in bass linearity, control and definition that JV experienced in his listening room. I also can't in good conscience recommend anybody spending this kind of money for subs. It's crazy!!!! Only if you are going for that last 5%, a great sub will get you 4% of the last 5%.

I've been using a pair of REL Gibraltar G2s and they are good, but no match for the Wilsons that I had and soon to have Q-15s. I really liked the Q-15s that I heard at Magico so much I decided to bite the bullet and order a pair. I loved the Wilson Watch Dog subs that I had but then sold because I mistakenly thought that the D5s wouldn't need subs. I'll be happy to report back once the Q-15s get here and broken in. In fact, smaller rooms often need subs more than larger rooms because the bass doesn't have the room to fill up the room because of the large wavelengths - damn physics. I also find that the size of room has NOTHING to do with needing subs. You don't really loose bass, unless you are listening to techno or pipe organ music.

I find that in a properly integrated sub system with full range speakers, the only way you know the sub is on is to turn it off and the mid range falls flat. I'm certainly tempted to look into the Magico sub for my system. I don't mean to answer for Le Roy, but my understanding is that the benefit of successfully integrating a sub is not so much about adding more bass but also and perhaps even more importantly, it's about providing a more solid foundation to better sort out the midrange and upper frequencies in order to let them shine in an even more coherent way. Anything additional would just be excessive.

I explained that my listening room is not that large (21' x 17') and the Vandy 7 MkII's internal powered subwoofers already provided more than sufficient bass for my room.

I was actually wondering if you might be Mike's client.ĭo you feel the D-5.1's in your listening room might benefit from the additional bass provided by Magico's subwoofers or do you feel you already have sufficient bass?Īs for my system, I was recently asked if I would purchase the Vandersteen subwoofers.
